Kevin Myers seldom leaves the Arawa Park racecourse without a winner or two and that trend could continue again at the Racing Rotorua meeting on Monday.

A lot of interest will centre on the Myers-trained Thundermore, who will contest the NZI 1950, the main race on the card.

Thundermore, an Australian-bred son of More Than Ready, has had only one start from Myers' Wanganui stable and the result was an easy three-length win on good ground at Riccarton last April. Despite not having raced for three months, Myers had the capable galloper primed for a winning performance.

Thundermore will strike a contrasting wet track at Arawa Park and another middle-distance assignment.

But punters shouldn't be taking any chances with the horse.

Thundermore was initially trained at Matamata by Peter McKay, who bought the horse as a yearling and developed him into the winner of three races from 18 starts.

He registered his first win on good ground over 1200 metres second-up at Hastings in August 2009 and a year later he deadheated for first over 1300 metres at Taupo, on a slow track.

He then completed a double with a Hastings 1600-metre win and had to later settle for a few placings, including a half-head second over 2200 metres at Te Aroha, before changing hands.

Thundermore will be ridden by Myers' niece, Kelly, in the Rotorua event and could get most opposition from Seigal, Dickens, The Muffin Man and De'Colletage, while other improvers could be Coolross, Count On and Zlato.
