Rotorua netballer Samantha Sinclair has the chance to represent New Zealand in next year's World Youth Championships.

The 17-year-old has been named in an 18-player squad by Netball New Zealand to take part in the New Zealand under-21 trials in Auckland on July 13 and 14. All players selected for these trials are eligible for the World Youth Championships in Glasgow 2013.

Sinclair is already a member of New Zealand Netball's Emerging Talent Accelerant Group - a group of players identified as having the potential to progress to the national under 21 side.

The John Paul College Year 12 student is the only Bay of Plenty player to make the squad.

For two years running, the midcourter was selected for the New Zealand Secondary Schools netball team.

New Zealand under-21 coach Janine Southby said the squad was a mixture of current NZU21 squad members, emerging talent accelerant squad members and those who have performed to a high level during College Netball, the ANZ Championship and at this week's New Zealand Age Group Championships held in Henderson's Trusts Stadium Arena.

From these trials a team of 12 will be selected to represent New Zealand at an under-21 tournament run by Netball Australia in Ballarat Melbourne from August 20 to 30. Also competing are England, South Africa and Samoa.

Southby said she was encouraged by the selected trialists.
