Fomer Super Rugby prop James McGougan has been recycled and will trot out for another campaign for Bay of Plenty - although it's for the development squad rather than the Steamers that he'll play this season.

McGougan left Bay of Plenty to play for Otago last season in the ITM Cup, after a couple of seasons struggling with lingering back issues that forced him to drop out of the Chiefs Super Rugby selection frame.

He played a handful of games for Tauranga Sports this season before bowing out of the Baywide, but has been enticed back into the representative fold for the provincial B team's short campaign.

"Googs was toying with the idea of playing for East Coast (in the Heartland division) but he's made the commitment and call to stay here, something we'd grateful of," Steamers coach Kevin Schuler said. "I'm sure if the opportunity arose for anything higher he'd put his hand up."

Players from Tauranga Sports (10) and Te Puke Sports (8) dominate the development team, to be coached by Jeremy Cotter and Charles Hubbard.
