Rowing: Winning pair reunite

Rotorua rower Julia Edward has partnered up with Lucy Strack for this year's world rowing season.

The pair made a name for themselves when they last joined forces for the 2010 rowing world champs on Lake Karapiro.

Edward was teamed up with Louise Ayling for the 2012 Olympics in London in the women's lightweight double sculls after Strack missed last season due to a back injury.

The reunion has already produced results with the pair winning gold at the inaugural Sydney International Rowing Regatta late last month.

Edward and Strack's gold medal performance was one of eight medals won at the regatta.

In total New Zealand claimed five gold; Edward and Strack women's lightweight double scull, women's double sculls, the lightweight men's single scull, the men's double scull and the men's lightweight coxless four.

The men's coxless quad sculls picked up a silver with a bronze to the women's coxless quad sculls and the men's coxless fours.

Up to 250 international athletes took part at the regatta, including Olympians from 18 countries. Edward and Strack dominated their final, taking the lead at the 500m mark before winning in a time of 8m and 8s.

Australia were second with Great Britain rounding out the top three. The regatta is the biggest rowing event in the Asia/Pacific region since the 2000 Olympics.
