There will be no senior softball competition in Rotorua this season due to a lack of interest.
The BOP Rotorua Association of Softball have received a low number of registrations in recent months, for women's and men's teams, and will not be able to hold a senior competition this seasonat Puketawhero Park. The original plan was to start a senior competition this weekend.
However, BOP Rotorua Association of Softball secretary Leigh-Anne Mullins said they were still looking at running a T-ball and softball competition for children this summer, following a good response from local schools.
Mullins said a start date for a junior competition was still to be decided, but they had plenty of interest from schools wanting to play.
Mullins said it was disappointing not being able to hold a senior competition this summer. Unfortunately, she said they had only received one registration for a women's team and one for a men's team.
Softball made a comeback this time last year in Rotorua but a low number of teams, especially in the men's competition, meant the sport was struggling towards the back end of the season in the city.
BOP Rotorua Association of Softball was established a couple of months ago to build on the work done by Central Bay Softball last season.
Mullins said she hoped they would be in a better position next year to grow the game and hold a senior competition.
