In 2016 and 2017, the National Road Relay Champs will be hosted in Rotorua by the Lake City Athletic Club, after being based in the Christchurch region for the past three years.
The event in Christchurch last weekend included a distance of 76.6km and attracted 112 eight-person teams from throughout New Zealand.
Lake City entered in the master's men, master's women and senior women's division with the 60-plus, six-person men's team contesting a shorter section of the main course.
Lake City's major placing came in the master's women's division when the team finished a creditable third in a time of 5h 59m 16s.
Solid team performances were returned by Sue Crowley and Lorna Mills who, running laps five and seven respectively, each recorded the fastest lap times for their grade.
In the senior women's division, Lake City finished in sixth place.
The final event on Lake City's winter programme will be a 10km open handicap event for runners and walkers based in the Whakarewarewa Forest on October 17.
