Rotorua Boys' High School under-15 rugby player Jayden Savage has kicked his team to a narrow 9-8 win over Christchurch Boys' High School this afternoon.

The Rotorua side who won the division three Bay of Plenty secondary school final last month, opened their account with a first up win at the New Zealand National Under-15 Rugby Tournament being held in Rotorua.

Playing in miserable wet and windy conditions all of Rotorua's points from the boot of the young second-five.

Christchurch had the advantage of a strong northerly in the first half but could only manage a 5-0 lead at the break to lock Nathan Evans.

Despite trying to play running rugby Rotorua could only put points on the board through the boot of Savage who kicked three from four attempts in trying conditions.

The visitors took the lead late in the match from their first-five Teddy Rose penalty but Savage would score the winner right on full-time.
