A gutted Georgia Dufty was looking forward to a better result at this weekend's Pub Charity Riverdale ODE Dunstan New Zealand Young and Junior Rider Championships in Rotorua, but a new jumping style did her no favours.

The Rotorua equestrienne said after an excellent dressage run she was feeling really confident but a disaster during the show jumping section saw her fall back to last place.

Dufty said she and mount Charlton Tabloid nailed the dressage at the Rotorua A&P; Showgrounds two-day event.

"I won the dressage, but the show jumping went completely horrible and I ended up last. It was probably the worst show jumping she [her horse] had done in her life.

"I think it was the new things I was trying, but I went back to my old habits and hit far too many rails."

Dufty said her horse was jumping well but their timing was off.

"I think we got a bit confused and we will have to spend more time on those things so they just come naturally without me having to think about it."

Dufty had told The Daily Post that she was trying a new technique for the show jumping and if she and her mount did not click, things could go wrong. Unfortunately for her, they did.

"People expect you to do well but with horses, it doesn't always happen. They've got their own brain and all that."
