Arawa Park race fans had plenty to cheer about when former hometrack rider Opie Bosson wrapped up the New Zealand jockeys' premiership.

With a three-win buffer over nearest rival Matthew Cameron leading into the final raceday of the 2012/2013 season, Bosson held his lead of 152 wins. Neither Bosson, a previous premiership winner, nor Cameron was able to secure a win at Rotorua yesterday.

Central districts trainer Lisa Latta was a close thing to become the first woman champion New Zealand trainer in her own right. She needed three of her runners to win yesterday but was unsuccessful on the day.
