High drama was played out at Pemberton Park in Tauranga on Saturday where Greerton sneaked home against Bayleys Central from Rotorua to make the Baywide Cup final against Otumoetai Cadets.

The home side ripped through the Central batsmen to remove them for 87. Greerton were cruising at 68 without loss before the wheels fell off their batting attack, losing four wickets at the 69-run mark without a run being scored.

The home side were forced into survival mode and at 81/8 were in deep trouble.

However, a hard-fought, tailend partnership took Greerton through to victory and a place in the Baywide Cup title decider.

Cadets laid down the gauntlet to the defending champions when they comprehensively defeated Te Puke at the Tauranga Domain at the weekend, in a winner-take-all match.

Attack was on the Cadets agenda from the opening ball and when they made a declaration at 294/5 in the 46th over they had set their opponents a hefty challenge.

Te Puke were playing catch-up for most of the encounter but were still in with a chance of a draw, which would have taken them to the title decider.

The end came with 12 balls remaining in the match, with Te Puke bowled out for 154 to give Cadets a big win.
