Round eight of the Lakeland Reserve 40-over competition saw Geyser City's John Paul College and Western Heights High School old boys teams go head-to-head.

In an entertaining battle within which there were many sub-plots and storylines, one man stole the headlines.

Geyser WHHS won the toss and sent Geyser JPC in to bat. Step up Param Singh, who scored a well crafted century, finishing on 107 runs, to lead his side to a total of 203 all out. His effort came as no surprise to his club mates - that century followed scores of 99 and 89 not out the two weeks prior. The best of the Geyser WHHS bowlers were Joe O'Donoghue (2/10) and Ben Astwood (2/24).

Having already contributed so heavily with the bat, Singh was not done yet. He took five wickets for 28 runs to help Geyser JPC bowl Geyser WHHS out for 154 and claim a 49-run victory. Liam Kelly chimed in with three wickets for 11 runs, while Cody Fell top scored for Geyser WHHS with a half century.

Meanwhile, Central romped to an easy victory when they skittled the Rotorua Lions for just 69 runs before chasing down the target with eight wickets to spare. Jake Rowe and Allan McMurdo did much of the damage with the ball for Central, taking 6/37 and 3/2 respectively. Julian Danby top scored in the Central run chase with 31 runs.

Lake Taupō and Tokoroa produced another run-fest. Lake Taupō batted first and scored an impressive 240/10. Their top scorers were A Davey (53) and C Davey (45), while R Hall took 3/27 for Tokoroa.

Tokoroa managed 187/7 in reply with Hall backing up his form with the ball, scoring 44, and P Theunissen contributing 43. C Davey and S Chourasia took two wickets each.

Taupō Old Boys 1 made short work of Taupō Old Boys 2, batting first and racing to 263/9 in their 40 overs. The second string Taupō Old Boys side could only manage 70 runs in reply.

Bay of Plenty Indians made sure they remained at the top of the table by hammering the Striker's 11. Indians batted first and scored 296/9 on the back of an impressive 120 runs L Sandhu. Strikers could only manage 116 in reply.
