Netball: Win isn't elusive for mates

For the Ngongotaha Elusives it is just good to be back on the netball court with a good group of mates.

The Rotorua Netball Centre was buzzing on Saturday with all eight Rotorua women's grades starting their netball seasons, after two weeks of grading.

The Elusives, who finished runners up to Whaka Redz last season in the Rotorua premier grade, won their first game of the season 51-22 against Western Heights High School Snr A.

Elusives player Aroha Taipeti said the girls were rapt and it was just good to be playing together again.

"We actually wanted to play socially this year but the organisers put us in prem 1," she said with a laugh.

"We are pretty much the same as last year but just have a few other ladies."

She said, to her knowledge, they were the oldest team in the league and were happy to be keeping up with the younger girls.

"Our youngest player is 26 I think," she said. "But the girls played well and got a good win to start the season."

In other premier games, Whaka Redz defeated Waikite 72-37, John Paul College Snr A beat Rotorua Girls' High School Snr A 51-30 and Whaka Diamonds beat Rotoiti On Tap 54-28.
