Horohoro farmer and motocross ace Cam Negus will ride in one of the world's most gruelling endurance races.
The International Six Days Enduro Trophy Team (ISDE) to be staged near Taupo next month is the world's largest participation motorcycle sport and Negus will compete in the Kiwi trophy
team after Kevin Archer withdrew due to work commitments.
But Negus, who has raced three motocross seasons in the world championships in Europe, nearly crashed out of the team just as quick.
A day after being named in the team Negus fell off his bike at speed during the the annual Hawke's Bay six-hour race and dislocated his shoulder joint.
Negus amazingly rode another 10km to the next check point before handing over to his team-mate Barry Morris to finish - and win the event.
It was the duos second in as many years, and Negus' third.
But it was a nervous wait for Negus who just this week was given the all-clear by a specialist to ride in the Taupo event.
The 32-year-old is confident he will be fit come race day.
"My goal will be to get a gold medal and help the team place as high as it can. I'm pretty sure the New Zealand riders will be definitely going for that top spot, they are a very good team," Negus said.
In the mean time he has been doing plenty of cycling and letting his shoulder settle.
"It's pretty good really and I'll be fine next month."
At the moment Negus is kept busy rearing 300 calves, with the help of his wife Phillipa, who is due to give birth to their second child 10 days after the event.
