The Baywide Lonestar T20 competition starts at Ferguson Park with champions Tauranga Boys' College looking to make it a hat-trick of titles after winning the two previous "smash and bash" titles.

The first two rounds of the T20 comp in the current season will be played at Ferguson Park in Tauranga today.

The Baywide T20 competition was introduced two years ago with the quickfire contests played whenever the Bay of Plenty representative team is in action in two-day Fergus Hickey Rosebowl matches. TBC played out a dramatic T20 finals day in March to beat Element IMF Cadets who had finished at the top of the qualifying series.

Led by Ben Noakes, who grabbed four wickets for 16 runs, TBC had Cadets on the back foot throughout the encounter to be all out for 58. Revenge will be on the agenda when the two sides meet in round one today. In other games City Sports Bat Te Puke meet East Bay United, Eves Realty Greerton will meet BOP Indians, and Mount Maunganui and Central square off. In round two a Baywide inter-city derby will take centre stage when Cadets and Central meet. Mount Maunganui is sure to challenge Tauranga Boys to their title defence with East Bay United squaring off against Greerton. Te Puke and BOP Indians round out round two.

Lonestar Baywide Premier T20 draw: Round One: Element IMF Cadets v Tauranga Boys' College, Ferguson 1; City Sports Bat Te Puke v East Bay United, Ferguson 2; Eves Realty Greerton v BOP Indians, Ferguson 3; Mount Maunganui v Central, Ferguson 4.
