Ohope kayaker Lisa Carrington has given New Zealand its fifth gold medal at the London Olympics, when she won the women's K1 200m final tonight.
Carrington made Olympic history winning the event which was making its debut at the games. The 53kg pocket rocket's time wasn't as fast as herOlympic record time 40.528 set in the semis last night but it was too fast for her opponents.
The gold medal win equals New Zealand's best medal haul of 13 set in Seoul, Korea.
As with Carrington's win in the 2011's world title this is the first Olympics for the kayaker.
