Rotorua golfer Danny Lee is in the running to secure a top-10 finish during his latest PGA Tour event in Connecticut.

Only a week after bombing out at the US Open, Lee has bounced back with three good rounds at the Travelers Championship in Connecticut.

Going into the final round of the tournament tomorrow morning, Lee has shot rounds of 66, 67 and 69 to sit at eight-under par for a share of 15th place.

Fellow Kiwi golfer Steven Alker also made the cut at the weekend and, going into the final round, is in a share of 49th at four-under par.

If Lee can pull out an exceptional round tomorrow morning he could qualify for the next major championship - The Open in Scotland next month at St Andrews. The top four players at the Travelers Championship not previously eligible for the Open, and who finish among the top 12 in Connecticut, will gain entry into the next major.

Less than a week after his disappointing display at the US Open, Rotorua's Danny Lee has turned on a fine first-round performance during his latest start on the PGA Tour.

Lee carded a four-under 66 in his first round yesterday morning at the Travellers Championship in Connecticut, only four shots behind leader Bubba Watson who recorded an eight-under 62. Lee's effort was good enough to give him a share of 15th after the first round.

Lee played in the second golf major of his career last weekend at the 115th US Open but missed the cut at Chambers Bay.

The Travellers Championship also counts as a qualifying tournament for the next major on the calender, the British Open next month in Scotland.

The top four players at the Travellers Championship not previously eligible for the Open, and who finish among the top 12 this weekend, will gain entry into the next major.

Other Kiwis in action in Connecticut this weekend include Steven Alker, who shot an even-par 70 yesterday, and Tim Wilkinson who shot one-over 71 in his first round.
