Lake Taupo triple take out Rotorua Indoor Bowls Champs

Lake Taupo Club's Robin Porter, Matthew Farquhar and Jacque Porter have won the Rotorua Indoor Bowls Championship Triples.

They defeated the Westbrook Club's combination of Marge Taare, Adalene Hay and Pai Te Tamaki 9-8 in the final over nine ends at the Ngongotaha Hall on Sunday.

It was Farquhar's second title in two weeks as he also won the Rotorua Pairs the previous weekend. This was his fifth title overall and earned him his Gold Star. He had previously won the triples with the Porters in 2014 and 2015 and the fours in 2015.

The final saw the Westbrook team lead throughout with Taare in great form. They went into the final end three shots ahead but on the final end the Lake Taupo triple scored four shots to clinch the title.

This was Robin Porter's seventh title and Jacque Porter's sixth.

In the semifinals Porter defeated Mike Bryant, Wayne Hitchens and Pani Bryant, Citizens Club 13-6 while Taare defeated Sam Bryant, Alan Gordon and Jim Flett, Citizens 9-7.

Keith Richardson, Paul Grocott and Jeff Richardson, RSA won the plate event for non-qualifiers against club mates Warren Nicol, Nick Van den Broek and Tristan Nicol 15-3.

Nine teams contested the championships and four teams qualified for post-section play in a cut-throat competition.
