Rotorua Boys' High have a score to settle when they meet the schools Super 8 champions Tauranga Boys' College, in the seventh round of the Williams Cup tomorrow.
Home advantage will favour the Tauranga team, but there will be no shortage of motivation for Rotorua Boys'. A loss
to Tauranga in the Super 8, has been followed by some disappointing results in the Williams Cup, causing the usually affable coach Ian Trott, to display a rather terse disposition of late.
Rotorua have some talented youngsters with both bat and ball, however it is time some of that potential was realised in the middle.
Williams Cup games are 50 overs a side and Rotorua must set their sights on batting out the available overs. Last week they scored 84 from 27 overs.
Averaging three runs an over is all well and good but if only 54 percent of the available batting time is used the bowlers will never have a defendable target to bowl to and any run chases will fall short.
Central were dealt a hiding by Greerton last week. Tomorrow Eastern Pirates will have the chance to show that teams from Rotorua are no patsies.
Unfortunately player availability or - lack of it - may play into Greerton's hands with Pirates having lost several players who have gone back to University.
IMF Westland Cadets meet the wounded Central XI at Tauranga Domain, and supporters of the Rotorua team will be hoping that there is no repeat of last week's dismal showing.
Certainly there is enough talent in the Central side. Will it be matched with enough pride and determination to win?
