It's not often you feel proud of punching someone in the head but Hayley Holt can lay claim to it.

The Crowd Goes Wild TV presenter stepped into the boxing ring for the first time at the Fight For Christchurch charity boxing event at the weekend.

Taking on cyclist Emma Ferguson, Holt won her three-round bout and told The Daily Post she was pretty stoked.

"The feeling afterwards is crazy. It's quiet weird being proud of the fact that you sort of punched someone in the head.

"I went in [to the ring] and my coach [Danielle Smith] told me to enjoy it. So I really took her advice and I came in and I was like hamming it up for the crowd and dancing to my song and then I was like 'oh man, I better back this up'."

Holt went into the ring to - Method Man, Redman - by Da Rockwilder which she said helped her not to get too nervous before her fight.

"Rather than sort of think about it [the fight] too much and internalise the situation. I went out and had some fun."

She backed the music up with a lot of hard work in training as well as a new-look corn rows hairstyle.

Although she won her fight Holt said her opponent didn't make it easy for her.

"She was tough actually, when she did land some punches especially her right hooks. She got me a couple of times in the third round with right hooks and they were heavy and I felt that and I was like 'thank god I didn't get hit with too many more of those."

The 31-year-old will now take on New Zealand surfer Paige Hareb in the Fight for Life league versus rugby on Saturday in Auckland.

It is the first time women have fought in the charity event run by Dean Lonergan and David Higgins, which will raise money for the Prostate Cancer Foundation of New Zealand.

Despite the win in Christchurch, Holt said she was still nervous about her next bout.

"I'm actually really nervous. I'm just realising I've got to get back and get my head back into the game and come back down into reality and do it all over again. It's gonna be quite a hard week I think."

Holt was also keen to send a message to the women taking part in the Christmas with a Punch Corporate Fight Night in Rotorua on December 10.

"Try not to think about it too much at the start, keep your hands up and protect yourself at all times as they say."

A performer on Dancing with the Stars, Holt said she was considering coming to the event in Rotorua to support the women fighters.

The match-up between Holt and Hareb is sure to spark a lot of interest. They will feature alongside six fighters representing league and rugby - Christian Cullen, Slade McFarland, Liam Messam and Carlos Spencer for rugby, versus Awen Guttenbeil, Issac Luke, Wendell Sailor and Jerry Seuseu for league. The feature bout will be Monty Betham and Shane Cameron.
