Football: D-Day looming for Rotorua teams

There should be plenty of support for Ngongotaha and Rotorua United tomorrow when they play two defining games as the WaiBop Federation League nears its conclusion.

If Rotorua United are to avoid relegation, the shadow of which has hung over them all season, they must beat Tauranga Boys' College at Neil Hunt Park.

Ngongotaha will be looking for a top-three finish if they can topple competition leaders Taupo at Stembridge Rd.

Rotorua United have lived on a knife-edge at the bottom of the table since the first game and having drawn 2-2 with their opponents in their first game their survival is far from guaranteed. The Villagers have a challenge on their hands when they host Taupo.

A win would take them into the top three but Taupo will have the title in their sights.

It was 5-2 to Taupo at Crown Park, and although Ngongotaha have improved the smart money will be on Taupo.

Waikato Unicol will want to reverse their previous 8-2 loss to Otumoetai to get out of the relegation zone, Old Blues are away to Claudelands Rovers and Melville are at home to Old Blues.
