Fresh off the Speedgolf World Championships, Rotorua golfer Landyn Edwards will head the field for the 2015 Lake View Classic.

Lake View Golf and Country Club will hold their flagship event today and tomorrow during the 36-hole Lake View Classic.

The annual tournament has attracted about 120 golfers this year and includes prizes for stableford, gross and net scores.

However, the overall men's and women's title will go to the golfers with the lowest score (gross) over the 36 holes.

Edwards, who finished 16th at the Speedgolf World Championships in Chicago last month, and has an impressive list of titles as an amateur golfer, will head the men's field this weekend.

Edwards is also the greenkeeper at Lake View Golf and Country Club and will go into the tournament with plenty of local knowledge.

In the women's field, the likes of local golfers Rotana Howard and Shelley McElroy will be gunning for the women's title.

It is the first Lake View Classic to be played on the course since new developments were completed at the start of the year, making the course longer and tougher.

Past president Murray Donaldson said the course had also had a season to recover after new irrigation.

"We have had one growing season on it. So that's why it is looking spick and span," he said.

Donaldson said they held their sponsors day yesterday for the Lake View Classic and were looking forward to some great golf this weekend.

The Lake View Classic has been running in Rotorua since the early 1990s. The organisers thanked their backers for supporting the event including major sponsor Sudima Hotel.
