Local rider Jeanette Davies has claimed a silver medal at the UCI BMX World Championships in Belgium to add to the Rotorua BMX Club's medal haul.
Davies placed second in her division on Thursday night (NZT) - the women's cruiser 30-plus category - finishing behind an Australian Sarsha Huntington. The
cruiser class features bigger wheels than standard-sized BMX bikes.
Earlier in the week brothers Lachie Stevens-McNab (11-year boys) and Wyatt Stevens-McNab (9-year boys) also picked up silver medals at the world champs.
The Rotorua club had seven riders attend the championships this week with Jamie Davies, Stirling Stevens-McNab, and Megan Williams also competing well. Honorary club member Sarah Walker (Kawerau) leads the New Zealand elite riders racing this weekend.
Davies was in excellent form to win her motos, quarterfinal and semifinal but was pipped in the final. She retains her W2 plate which she won last year.
