Bay of Plenty Cricket is taking a significant step to further build the cricket base in the region holding coaching and umpiring workshops.
The workshops are to be held in Rotorua, western Bay of Plenty, and Taupo.
The umpiring component of the workshop is a new initiative aimed at increasingthe numbers of umpires and scorers in the region and will be delivered by BOPCA Umpire Manager Kevin Earl.
"NZ Cricket has a new focus of getting back to grassroots in the game throughout the country. My position is to put in place a umpires and scorers development program, with a focus on recruiting, training and developing aspiring cricket umpires and scorers," he said.
The coaching and umpiring workshop are for anyone interested in learning the basics of cricket coaching and umpiring. They will cover the fundamental skills needed to coach a junior cricket team and umpire a junior match.
All three workshops will run from 5.30pm to 7pm and are free to attend with all equipment provided with anyone with an interest in developing grassroots cricket welcome.
