Rotorua's Central Rugby League Club will honour the club's late founder when they travel to Ngaruawahia to play in the Pat Bennett Memorial Nines tournament today.
Pat Bennett founded Central Rugby League Club in 1949, with the club now having its base at Edmund Rd.
The club has seen playerslike Hika Reid, Buck Shelford and Caleb Ralph pass through its junior ranks.
Central senior team manager Betsy Murray said they were taking a team up to the nines tournament today, to play in the 20th staging of the event.
She said it was great to be able to go up and support the event, as well as give the senior team a good pre-season run.
"Pat Bennett founded our club in 1949 and when he left the club he went back to Ngaruawahia to start a business. Central have been operating for 67 years this year."
Teams from Waikato, Auckland and Rotorua are taking part in the nine-a-side rugby league tournament.
