Bay of Plenty's Rebecca Kersten and Kendra Reynolds have been named in the Black Ferns Sevens development team to attend two tournaments this year.

Bay of Plenty's Claudia Colenso has also been named in the New Zealand Universities training squad who will prepare and build towards the 2018 World University Games to be held in Namibia in July.

In addition to being announced in the Black Fern Sevens development team Kersten has received an interim Black Ferns Sevens contract, to provide cover for the Black Ferns Sevens players potentially selected in the Black Ferns Rugby World Cup squad.

Kersten and Reynolds both play for the Rangiuru club.

Bay of Plenty Women's Development Officer Lesley Ketu said it was a great opportunity for all three girls to have the opportunity to further develop their skill set and establish themselves on the high performance pathway.

"In addition to this it is great recognition for their continued hard work following on from the Bay of Plenty Women's Sevens program."
