Bay of Plenty junior boys and girls champions, Western Heights High School and Otumoetai College, are among the top seeds at the North Island Volleyball Secondary School Championships starting in Wellington on Monday.
A total of 136 secondary school volleyball teams will take the court for the North and SouthIsland championships to be held in Wellington and Invercargill.
In Wellington, 87 teams take part in the North Island Championships at the ASB Sports Centre in Kilbirnie, for students from Years 9 and 10, while 49 teams will play at Invercargill.
The North Island Championships feature teams from the strong Auckland and Bay of Plenty regions in the top seeded positions.
Top girls seed is Tauranga's Otumoetai College, who won the Bay of Plenty Championship.
Leading the North Island boys' section is Rotorua's Western Heights High, who also won the Bay of Plenty Championship last week. In addition, Whakatane's Trident High School is among the top teams.
In the South Island, Waimea College and Nelson College for Girls are frontrunners in the girls' section, while Nelson College, Waimea College and Marlborough Boys' College head the boys section at Invercargill.
