Rotorua's Peter Wood will make his Bay of Plenty Development debut in tomorrow's competition decider against Hamilton at Smallbone Park.
The Central batsman has earned his place after a solid club season and gets his chance to impress along with fellow debutant bowler Tom MacRury (Tauranga Boys' College).
At stake in tomorrow's season-ending match is the Basil McBurney Trophy, the symbol of Northern Districts Development superiority. While Bay of Plenty will need to strike top form to take the trophy, three successive victories in the competition suggest they have the batting firepower to do so.
The selectors have continued to reward form players in the Baywide leagues. Western Bay's Shane Wineti is enjoying a purple patch of form, smashing 163 runs in just three Williams Cup games while Greerton's Campbell Thomas took 15 wickets in the Bay of Plenty Cup and has added another six in the Williams Cup.
Senior men's wicket keeper Tim Clarke (Mt Maunganui) has been selected as a specialist batsman after his impressive form in recent weeks. Tauranga Boys' College keeper Alex Oakley will resume glove duties in the Development side after making his Bay senior men's debut in January while Clarke was sidelined by injury.
