Rotorua's Long family are preparing for the new rubbish and recycling services starting 31 October.

Emma and Gavin have been teaching their children Megan (13), Samuel (10) and Oliver (3) about recycling and they're excited to help out.

"Because we live out of town and we have a very busy family life with fulltime work and school, it is hard for us to get to the recycling centre every week.

"We were so happy to find out about kerbside recycling. It takes the hassle out of finding the time to do it," said Mrs Long.

The family, who live at Hamurana, have also tested an inexpensive device that enables them to tow the bins down their long driveway.

"It's great. We just hook it inside the boot and tow it down the drive. You don't even need a tow bar," said Mrs Long.

Read the Long family's story and watch the bin towing device in action at rotorualakescouncil.nz/rubbish or see the video below.
