A 40-year-old Te Puke woman is in a stable condition at Tauranga Hospital after a car and a truck collided this morning.

The woman sustained serious injuries after the crash on the Te Puke Highway between Poplar Lane and Manoeka Rd about 8.30am.

The road was closed for more than two hours while emergency services were at the scene.

One person was trapped in a vehicle when firefighters arrived, said northern fire communications shift manager Paul Raddon.

He said officers used rescue equipment to extricate the person.

Fire crews from Te Puke, Papamoa and Mount Maunganui were called to the scene.

A witness said it appeared a truck had gone off the road and was on the bank near the crash site.
