One of those injured in the fatal crash near Ngongotaha has thanked those who helped at the scene.

The woman, who is not from Rotorua, remains in Rotorua Hospital in a serious but stable condition.

Through a hospital spokeswoman, she said she wanted to thank all the local people who stopped at the scene of the accident and did everything they could to help before emergency services arrived.

The crash, which happened on State Highway 5 at Turakenga yesterday, left a woman dead and five others injured.

Four patients have since been discharged.
