Whakarewarewa and Rotoiti have started their Baywide Premier campaign with wins this afternoon.

Whakarewarewa had a hard fought victory over a tough Te Puna side at Puarenga Park.

The red and black men clung onto a 24-20 win after having two players sin binned in quick succession in the last 10 minutes of the match.

Whaka went in with a 10-8 advantage at half-time thanks to a converted try by Maake Taulahi and a Kelly Haimona penalty.

The win was secured in the second half thanks to converted tries from Reuben Edwards and Haimona.
