Wildlands has taken out the supreme award at the 2017 Westpac Rotorua Business Excellence Awards.

According to its website, the Sala St-based company provides specialist skills and project implementation in relation to ecology, biodiversity, ecological restoration and revegetation, survey and monitoring, assessments of ecological effects, environmental monitoring, indigenous flora and fauna, exotic pest plants and animals, and wetland restoration.

The awards were presented at a gala awards ceremony at the Energy Events Centre tonight.

The night's other big award went to Gregg Brown, who was announced as the Red Stag Timber Business Person of the Year.

Mr Brown owns Capers Epicurean and the Pig & Whistle.

The large crowd was entertained throughout the evening by singer and saxophone combo Yulia and Michael, Shihad frontman Jon Toogood and The Love Doctors, led by Sons of Zion lead singer Rio Panapa. DJ Ari rounded out the night.
