Unison has restored power to the majority of customers in Taupo and Rotorua following wild weather which caused power outages across both regions over the past few days.
Danny Gough, Unison's Customer Relations Manager, said the Company's lines crews had worked tirelessly to reconnect customers as fast as they
could, with crews coming through from Hawke's Bay to assist with repairing both networks.
"Our crews have done a superb job, working in challenging conditions, to ensure we could get the power back on for our customers as soon as it was safe to do so. The weather, which brought down power poles and lines across the network in Taupo and Rotorua, has thankfully now abated.
"We still have a handful of customers without power in isolated areas (in both regions), but we are confident they will have power restored by the end of today," he said.
Earlier story: About 130 rural Taupo homes and a dozen rural Rotorua properties are still without power this morning after the storm which ripped through the region this week brought down powerlines.
Unison communications manager Danny Gough said contractors were aiming to have power restored to most of the Taupo homes by 11am.
However, a power pole still down in Taupo would mean about a dozen isolated properties would still be without power until later today or tonight.
Nine customers in Hallett's Bay near Motutere can expect their power to be restored later today also, Mr Gough said.
Rotorua's Okataina Lodge should have power restored some time today as well.
Meanwhile, cloudy, showery weather has been forecast for the region through the weekend.
