The whole family, including the kids, can hit the trails at the Copthorne Rotorua Off Road Half Marathon event.

The annual event on Sunday is an opportunity to run or walk your way along scenic off-road trails and smooth gravel forest roads in Whakarewarewa forest.

The day's events include a
1.5km Fun Run/Walk for 3 to 6-year-olds, 2.5km Fun Run/Walk for 7 to 10-year-olds, 5km Fun Run/Walk, Quarter Marathon Fun Run/Walk and Half Marathon.

Murray Fleming from Event Promotions said numbers had "ballooned" this year.

He said the kids' event was "very, very popular" with more than 200 children entered already, while for the adults the quarter marathon distance was proving slightly more popular than the half.

People can enter on the day, but Mr Fleming said the finisher medals were limited to 300 for children and 1100 for those in the longer distances.

Mr Fleming said the event was popular with spectators - and he expected about 600 watching.

He said the weather forecast was looking fantastic for the day.
