Eastern Bay of Plenty artist Te Mete (Smith), is on a mission to enhance and showcase the beauty that exists in the Whakatohea region.

Te Mete has created two exhibitions Pakowhai - The Eye of Opotiki with the support of Creative New Zealand.

The exhibition includes fine art paintings and photography, which will be displayed for one night only on Friday.

"The aim is to celebrate the many attributes that exist in the community, through the people, history, beauty and what is a quintessential New Zealand town with great values and awesome people," he said.

Te Mete is a contemporary artist who uses his inherited Maori and European ancestry and cultural experiences in his work.
