Waikite under 6s in action in last year's competition.

Waikite under 6s in action in last year's competition.

Rotorua's Waikite Rugby and Sports Club is so excited about the coming season, they've decided to hold a whanau day as part of junior rugby registration.

Whanau are invited along to the club next weekend to register their children for the coming rugby season as well as spend a few hours having fun.

The Registration and Whanau Day will be held on Sunday March 6 from 10am to 12 noon at the Waikite Clubrooms on Bellvue Rd, Koutu.

There will be a sausage sizzle and fun activities for the children. Grades from under 6s to under 13s are welcome to come along to register. The club also invites families to bring along their rugby gear and tracksuits for a "gear swap".

Waikite Junior Rugby co-ordinator Mike Miller said Waikite was a whanau-orientated club and the organisers thought it was a good idea to hold a whanau day to try and get more people involved.

"We are trying to build our membership and we thought a good way of doing that was from the bottom up with junior rugby. So we invite grandparents, parents, aunties and uncles to come along. They don't have to be part of Waikite and anyone outside of Ngati Whakaue is welcome. We are open to everyone."

The club is also interested in hearing from anyone who is keen to be a coach or manager for the junior teams this year. For details, go to www.waikitejrc.com or email admin@waikitejrc.com.
