Waikite have their tails up heading into the Baywide women's rugby competition after a thrilling pre-season tournament in Rotorua.

The Bayfair Baywide women's rugby competition starts tomorrow across the Bay with three new teams - Ngongotaha, Tauranga Sports and Tokoroa - making it an eight-team competition.

All eight sides played in a pre-season tournament last weekend at Waikite which saw the home side and Arataki meet in the final. The pre-season final was a repeat of last year's Baywide grand final.

Waikite proved too strong for Arataki at home winning the pre-season match in golden point extra time 21-14.

The other sides competing this year include Waimana, Rotoiti and Te Whanau Apanui.
