Vote Kapa Vote has gone viral with kapa haka groups throughout the country challenging one another to have their democratic say.

Rotorua roopu (group) Te Matarae I O Rehu voted on Saturday after accepting the challenge laid by Te Whanau a Apanui last week in Opotiki. They have since nominated fellow Te Arawa groups Te Pikikotuku o Ngati Rongomai and Te Iti Kahurangi.

Other kapa haka groups nationwide to take part have included Whangara Mai Tawhiti, Te Waka Huia and Tauranga-based Tutara Kauika.

Vote Kapa Vote was launched at Opotiki College a week ago led by Labour candidate for Waiariki, Rawiri Waititi. Similar to the ice challenge, it involves kapa haka teams casting their advance vote and performing, before nominating another kapa haka group to do the same.

The video is then uploaded on Facebook.
