The 2016 Bay of Plenty Volcanix side have kicked off their Mitre 10 Farah Palmer Cup campaign with a 31-11 loss to North Harbour.
The match was played on Saturday at Rotorua International Stadium, with the Bay side featuring a mixture of youth and experience guided by a new coaching team of Brendon Webby and Brad Fleming.
The Volcanix team came out firing and within the first minute they were on the board after Mystery McLean-Kora made a break down the left hand wing to score the first try of the match.
North Harbour left winger Rina Paraone responded quickly crashing over the line and was soon followed by right winger Florida Fatanitivake. Chelsea Alley found her form with the boot giving North Harbour a 19-5 lead.
Briar McNamara caused havoc for the Volcanix by scoring in quick succession. Harbour flanker Jemma Palmer would have the final say, with North Harbour taking a 31-11 win.
