Friends and family of Stevie-Rae Marks were at the Whakatane District Court yesterday when Karma Jasmine McIvor appeared in the dock.
Stevie-Rae, 15, was hit and killed by a car allegedly driven by McIvor while she and three friends walked on a grass verge in Matata at 11.30pm
on August 21.
McIvor, 22, of Te Teko, arrived at court in a small bus and was surrounded by supporters as she made her way inside yesterday. She was represented by Tauranga lawyer Tony Balme.
No pleas were entered to charges of failing to stop after an accident and ascertain injury, driving with an excess breath-alcohol level of 795 micrograms 795 micrograms of alcohol per litre of breath, causing the death of Stevie-Rae Marks.
The limit is 400 micrograms of alcohol per litre of breath.
She also faces two charges of drunk driving causing injury to Velvet Anne Marks and Darcy Stoneham. No pleas were entered.
During her appearance, McIvor kept her face turned from the media and as she left the dock, had her head down with her hair shielding her face.
She was remanded on continued bail for a pre-depositions hearing in the Whakatane District Court on October 10.
The Marks family, including Stevie-Rae's cousin Velvet Marks, watched the group supporting McIvor leave the court after her appearance, but did not speak to them.
