A Taupō bakery owner says it is lucky no one was injured after a car crashed into his store.

A police spokeswoman said police were called to the scene on Mansell Rd about 2.50pm.

A car had crashed into the Rangatira Bakery in the suburb of Nukuhau.

Rangatira Bakery owner Silong Khammy said he was working when he heard the crash.

“I just heard the sound and I came out and it was right there.

“It’s lucky no one was sitting outside. It hit the outside chair and table.”

A reporter at the scene said the car had driven through the balcony in front of the bakery, snapping two poles and destroying windows and outdoor furniture.

Police were in attendance and speaking with the driver. No one was injured.
