Variety mini bash raised $20,000

This year's Variety Mini Bash raised more than $20,000 for children in need.

The Mini Bash travelled from Mangere in Auckland to Rotorua from September 2 to 4, stopping in various towns to raise money for Variety, The Children's Charity.

Variety chief executive Lorraine Taylor said the Mini Bash was a car rally of crazy trucks and cars, which travelled more than 500km fundraising for Kiwi kids.

The Mini Bash also saw grants distributed to several New Zealand children. Ms Taylor said this year's event saw more than $11,500 distributed to Kiwi kids in need.

Ms Taylor said children in Rotorua gathered to see the Variety Mini Bash at a community event at Ngongataha Rail Park.

Rotorua's Rachel Mahar, who lives with diabetes, was presented with an insulin pump from Variety to help her to better manage her condition.

"Some Bash teams got stuck in to the school gardens, weeding, pruning and tidying up the grounds," Ms Taylor

The Mini Bash finished at the Cambridge Race Course, where three grants were presented.

Hautapu Primary School received a grant for $1000 towards sports equipment, Hamilton Refuge and Support Services accepted $1000 towards holiday activities and outings for children affected by domestic violence and True Colours Charitable Trust was presented with $500 towards equipment for play therapy for young people with chronic, serious or life-threatening illnesses.
