Cordons have been removed and staff and students allowed to return, following a bomb scare at Waiariki Institute of Technology this afternoon.

Police say two phone calls were made to police saying a bomb had been planted in the Waiariki reception building.

No bombs were found and police are investigating who made the calls.

She said a staff member told her there had been a phone call made to Waiariki saying there was a bomb, while others were also talking about a bomb threat.

Waiariki communications manager Marisa Balle said staff were told to evacuate just before 4.30pm.

"Police said that someone had called Waiariki with a threat and that they were investigating," she said.
