Rotorua United's captain Andrew Gibbs has warned the side must be "ruthless in front of goal" if they are to win their first game in seven matches.

United, who are sixth in the WaiBOP Premiership, host tenth placed Katikati FC Ambria at Neil Hunt Park tomorrow.

They take a positive attitude into the game after last weekend's hard fought nil all draw against high flyers Melville United.

But Gibbs said the team should have collected all three points after hitting the bar and creating several clear cut opportunities and wants to see more clinical finishing.

"On paper it looked like a good result but we created great opportunities and could have come away with the win," he said.

"We want to re-discover the form we had at the beginning of the season and that means finding the back of the net. You can't win games if you don't score, simple as.

"The team is confident. We are at home and there is a positive vibe back at the club and the plan is now to get back to winning ways.

"Katikati have to be taken seriously. We have to play an attacking style against them and our pace and power should be too much for them to handle."

United will be without top goal scorer Dayne Willemsen and midfielder Ben Cave and brother Josh. However Gibbs said there was enough depth and quality in the squad and the team had been aided by the return of experienced player Mark Hunt, after a spell out from the game.

"We have had a few problems with injuries and availability but that was always going to happen as we are building the team this season," he said.

"It's unfortunate about Dayne in particular but it just means it gives other players a chance to step up and prove themselves.

"We are lucky to have Mark back. I would describe him as a 'Peter Crouch' kind of player. He is awkward and difficult to defend against up front and out of nowhere he can produce moments of magic.

"The squad is now focused on creating a happy atmosphere and vibe. This season is a trial in many ways but I am confident we are well on our way to get back to our best once again."

Meanwhile, the only unbeaten side in the WaiBOP Premiership - Ngongotaha AFC - are aiming to win their tenth game of the season when they take on ninth placed Old Blues Prem away tomorrow.

Ngongotaha have only dropped two points in 10 games and have a three point cushion over second placed Matamata Swifts with a game in hand.

The top of the table side go into today's game on the back of an empathic 8-0 away victory against SGS Papamoa with in form strikers Josh O'Sullivan and Mitchell Miller both scoring a hat trick.

Ngongotaha have by far and away the best attacking and defensive records in the division - scoring 56 goals while conceding just eight in 10 games.

"We have sent a very strong message to all the teams in the league," said coach Shane Davis.

"I want us to win the league in style and keep playing the attractive counter attacking football we have been doing all season."
