Undies Run: Jane Roberts, James Alexander, Alex Tague and Marcello Ojerio.

Undies Run: Jane Roberts, James Alexander, Alex Tague and Marcello Ojerio.

The easiest way to raise money for new mountain-bike trails, it seems, is to offer up some of the city's biking personalities for an undie run.

Rotorua Mountain Bike Club committee member Lisa Horlor co-ordinated the effort, which garnered $2000 in pledges in a couple of days. Last year she put her own hand up for the run, but due to injuries from a crash at Crankworx this time around she took a back seat.

Early yesterday her friend Jane Roberts, mountain bikers Marcello Ojerio, Alex Tague and James Alexander, stripped down to the bare minimum and completed several runs of the Challenge Roadside trail just after 7am.

The club is almost at its $7340 goal needed to rebuild the Exit Trail, which fell victim to recent logging.

"We never expected this much money to come in from this," Miss Horlor said.

"Once again the community has been amazing and supportive of something that's quite controversial. It's something people talk about, it's something we can tell a story with.

"I'm stoked, it's been fantastic promoting it."

The undie run was filmed and photographed to prove to supporters that it had happened and to create more opportunities to promote the tracks.

Work is already in progress on the new trails. Two are being built, one is family friendly and the other more advanced.

Mr Alexander, who is a real estate agent, was one of the men to strip down for the cause.

"I loved the Exit trail and I miss it every time I come riding. Lisa is such a larger than life character we needed three people to fill her position."
