Kia ora koutou. Last Saturday night at Tokaanu we had a fatal accident on State Highway 41 where a car hit a pedestrian, a local male, who died.

Then last Monday we had another sudden death, that of a young girl.

I do know that in our small community these locals are known to so many people, with a lot of people being affected.

As police, we are part of the community and we are saddened along with everyone else and offer our condolences to the whānau.

On the crime front, it was pleasingly low last week, with two burglaries, three family harm incidents and one vehicle break-in reported.

The vehicle belonged to an angler fishing in the Waiotaka River and while it's hard to avoid parking in these isolated spots sometimes, you can make your vehicle less of a target.

Always locking it and removing all valuables or putting them out of sight is a really good start.

Last Sunday we had 56 rangatahi and 20 adults join us on Blue Light Tūrangi's trip to Rotorua.

There was lots of fun had riding the luge and the gondolas at Skyline Rotorua and then we visited Paradise Valley which was also cool, really educational and the environment the animals are in is really nice.

It was a good day trip and beautiful weather too.

The next Blue Light trip, our annual big excursion for a weekend in Auckland is next month and is already fully subscribed.

Kia haumaru te noho, stay safe, Te Reipa.
