Two men today remain in a critical condition in Waikato Hospital's intensive care unit after a crash in Turangi.

The men were flown to Waikato Hospital yesterday after their car hit a tree on Te RangiTautahanga Rd, just past the intersection with Hirangi Rd about 4pm.

A third man is in a stable condition in a ward at Waikato Hospital.

All three were trapped and had to be extricated by the Turangi Fire Service before being flown to Waikato Hospital in a critical condition.

They are all local to Turangi and in their late teens.

The car involved was a grey Subaru Impreza.

The Serious Crash Unit is investigating the cause and wants to hear from anyone who witnessed the crash, or has any other information that may be relevant; no matter how insignificant it may seem.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Nick Weight from the Taupo Road Policing Group on (07) 378 6060.
