Turangi attack teen's dad on assault charge

The father of the Turangi teen jailed this week for raping a 5-year-old tourist appeared in court yesterday charged with assaulting his partner.

Mark Marino, 47, appeared in Taupo District Court charged with injuring with intent to injure his partner on January 28, it was reported.

One day earlier his son, Raurangi Marino, 16, appeared in the High Court at Rotorua.

He was given 10 years' jail for the attack on the 5-year-old girl.

The judge was critical of the teen's upbringing. Both parents had gang connections.

Mark Marino yesterday entered no plea and was remanded in custody to reappear later this month, it was reported.
