Truck hits tree near Whakatane

State Highway 2 near Whakatane was closed this morning after a truck crashed into a tree.

The incident occurred about 3.30am on White Pine Bush Rd (SH2) near Poroporo.

A police northern communications spokesperson said the road was briefly closed and traffic was diverted via Station Rd.

She said no injuries were reported.

The NZ Transport Agency said a stop/ go sign was in place while a crane removed the truck.

The road was now clear but speed restrictions remained in place.
