State Highway 1 has been partially closed after a truck and trailer carrying hazardous substances caught fire.

Emergency services were alerted of the fire, on SH1, near Mac Rd, North of Turangi, about 12.35pm.

A fire communications spokeswoman said the truck was carrying about 50kg of hazardous substances, which caught fire.

She said she was unsure as to how many people were in the truck at the time, but said no one was injured.

The fire had already gone out before fire crews from Turangi and Taupo arrived, she said.
